Le Chasselas de Moissac

Plums pears, peaches, apples, cherries...All are here!
MOISSAC, the door of "Pays de Cocagne" (the land of plenty)!

Its Saturday and Sunday morning markets and yearly fairs are rightly famous, attracting numerous farmers and town inhabitants.

But, first and foremost, the Golden Chasselas Grapes have been the glory of Moissac farming production since the middle of the nineteenth century and their excellent quality (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) is recognized.
Traditionnally grown in family farms, they need great care throughout the year. Carefully gathered, they are chiseled, presented and exported like a work of art.

Le Chasselas de Moissac

Moissac where Chasselas grapes can be tasted around the Uvarium kiosk.

On the third Saturday and Sunday of September, Moissac offers its fruit for a major fair which has given the town the title of :

"CAPITALE OF FRUIT"

When you come to Moissac, follow the quiet, calm atmosphere of a tour which will guide you from monuments "Stone" to streams "Water". Start in front of the doorway of the abbey-church, at the feet of hillocks and go to the Tarn river banks.

Following the tour, you will cross streets whose names in French and Occitan (regional language) remind us of the town's past : rue du Moustier (rue de la République), place de Pontegrantié (where "lou tregan" : gudgeon was sold), rue Saint-Jacques (rue Jean Moura), nowadays' street of artists, rue Lacapelette (rue de l'Inondation) : then, you will cross the "Canal des deux mers" (Canal between the two Seas with its wonderful Westward view; at last, you will reach the river banks which gives you its fresh, lighted, stripe.

Other people, since ancient times, have followed this path, guided by their faith or dreams to the doors of the temple where the star of James the Elder shines. Moissac, indeed, has for a long time been an major stop on the way from le Puy towards Santiago of Compostella in spain.

Thus, it can be asserted that Moissac is a town where life is so pleasant.
