In 951, bishop GODESCALC
opened the first known path towards Santiago, it started from Le Puy. Cluniac monks, who had this road developed, has affiliated, in 1047, this "royal abbey" which treasured numerous relics and could house a lot of pilgrims. |

Nowadays, in Moissac, located
a quarter of the path between LE PUY and COMPOSTELLA pilgrims
can visit a world-widely known site, rest and find accomodation especially
in the CARMEL (a former Carmelites'convent), as well as in hotels, and
assitance lodging, in the presbytery. Furthermore, Moissac is twinned wih the town of ASTORGA (region of Leon), another major stop in Spain. |
